Answers to the most common questions about our materials, formats, the configurator, quotes and returns.
Products and materials
- What is Empereur Paris?
- Empereur Paris designs high-end switches, sockets and decorative plates, handmade in France, for architect-designed interiors, residences and hospitality projects.
- What are the plates made of?
- The plates are shaped on a base of stainless steel, solid brass or aluminium. The construction is entirely metal, with no visible plastic parts.
- What makes a switch high-end?
- At Empereur Paris, a high-end switch is built entirely in metal (solid brass, stainless steel or aluminium) with no visible plastic part, hand-polished and precisely machined. It is composed to order in the configurator and installed by a qualified electrician.
- Where can I buy a switch in Paris?
- Empereur Paris is a Parisian house. Empereur luxury switches are available from Helectic, a distributor in Boulogne-Billancourt, next to Paris, and by direct contact, on quotation. Contact details are on the Distributors page, and you can compose your plate in the configurator before writing to us.
- Which finishes do you offer?
- Mirror-polished stainless steel, brushed stainless steel, mirror-polished brass, brushed brass, aged brass. The configurator also offers white, black and gunmetal plates. Mirror polish shows the handwork; the other finishes are lightly brushed or patinated.
- What are the plate dimensions?
- Circle plates are 80 mm in diameter and 6 mm thick. Square plates are built from 8 x 8 cm modules, from 1 to 4 modules (8, 16, 24 or 32 cm), horizontal or vertical.
- What is the difference between Circle, Small, Square and Tiny?
- Circle (Classic and Thin series) is the iconic round shape, Small is its compact format, Square is the composable square plate and Tiny is the narrow format. Each collection has its own page under Collections.
- Do the finishes age?
- Solid metals are built to last and develop their patina over time, which is part of the character of the product.
Configurator and mechanisms
- How does the configurator work?
- You choose the finish, the plate format (1 to 4 modules), then the mechanism for each position: switch, two-way switch, push button, power socket, USB, RJ45 or cable outlet. The configurator builds a composition you can send as a quote request.
- Can I mix several mechanisms on one plate?
- Yes. Double, triple and quadruple plates take different mechanisms side by side, for example a socket and a switch, or a two-way switch and a push button.
- What is the difference between a two-way switch and a push button?
- A two-way switch controls a light from two places and changes state mechanically. A push button sends an impulse to a relay, a timer or a home automation system.
- Are the plates drilled to order?
- Each plate shape has its own cut-outs: 12.2 mm for a switch or push button, 47 mm for a power socket. A made-to-measure plate is possible on quote, with a surcharge.
- Are the mechanisms compatible with an existing installation?
- Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician. For a precise compatibility question, write to us with the references of your installation.
